Let's start at the very beginning.
Let’s start at the very beginning. A very good place to start.
We had recently moved to Minnesota, from the cool garden city Bangalore. We had braved our first long winter. One particularly snowy spring morning in 2013 to quench my creative thirst, armed with my basic pottery tools, I headed out to our local community art center to learn Beginner’s Pottery on the wheel.
I almost never made it to the art center, I had almost managed to drive my car into a ditch, fish-tailed my way down a steep road, prayed to all the Indian Gods and few Minnesotan ones, I slowly made my way to the parking lot and cried copious amount of tears.
So on that remarkable Spring day was my initiation into pottery. From that day till today literally & metaphorically pottery has been my creative anchor through all the snowstorms.
These were the first pots I threw on the wheel.
I was probably throwing with half a pound of recycled clay and the rim of the first pot got distorted when I picked it up. I kept it because it was precious to me, something I had created for the first time with my hands!
