The Pandemic and Creative Incubation: March, 2020 to June, 2021

March 13th. 2020 was the last time I went to my community art center before it shut down due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

I considered this period of waiting as a creative incubation of sorts. Gave myself time, surrendered to what was and waited for the universe to arrange things for me.

After nine months of not making pots, I slowly started trying hand-building techniques like Kurinuki, Coil & Slab Building in my makeshift studio in our unfinished basement in December, 2020

Lots of trial and errors, lot of you tube learnings later...

I had a bag of Laguna Clay's Cone 10 B-mix (white stoneware) at home.

This was also when I started experimenting with Amaco Underglazes. I tried Mishima Surface textures with underglazes and a lot of brushwork.

My first attempt at Coil building. It was way tougher than I imagined!

Finally as vaccinations began and Covid restrictions started easing in May-June, 2021, I was able to get my work bisqued.

I went back to creating pottery in a new community art center in June, 2021. Will share more in my next post.

Creative incubations most often lead to new adventures and learnings.
